NUJU opens exhibition called «Flashes of War 2022» (ANNOUNCEMENT)
A resident of Kherson kissing a Ukrainian soldier in the center of the liberated city, a landfill of Russian shells in Kharkiv, a crater after a Russian missile that hit a Ukrainian field a dozen kilometers away from the front line are photos of this war that impress. They have already flown around the world.
Many of them will be presented at the Flashes of War 2022 photo exhibition, which will open in Kyiv on Monday, December 26, at 12 p.m. The organizer of the event is the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), the curator of the exhibition and the author of most of the works is Associated Press news agency correspondent / Pulitzer Prize finalist Efrem Lukatsky. The exhibition will also present the works by Andrii Andriyenko, Serhii Nuzhnenko, Vlada and Kostiantyn Liberovs, Andrii Mariyenko, and Roman Chop.
As is expected, the works of photographers presented at the exhibition will depict the war in Ukraine.
“I have been to different wars… There was ‘their war’, but I knew that everything was fine at home, that we have a peaceful country, and you can return and relieve stress. Now, I have a different mindset. I look at my Western colleagues who come to us for the war as if on safari. But I see that this is not their war, it is my war… Because my acquaintances, my friends are dying here. So, this war is the hardest for me. And, of course, this war differs from others by its scale. If we think globally, we can see that with this war a new world, a new world order is being born. Ukraine is becoming a completely different country that will be treated with respect. The big one is visible from a distance. Although all this is accompanied by terrible torment… It is very painful. But I understand that the war will end, and it will be a completely new world!” says Efrem Lukatsky.
“Working at war is dangerous, scary, hard, dirty, and cold. But the main thing is to do your job, show the war and not harm anyone,” admits Radio Liberty photojournalist Serhii Nuzhnenko, who became the only Ukrainian whose photo was included in the selection of the best photos of 2021 by the Reuters agency.
The photo exhibition was organized by the NUJU with the support of the Swedish human rights organization Civil Rights Defenders.
