NUJU calls on international journalists and media organizations to express solidarity with Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Prokhorova, whose home was destroyed by a Russian missile.
Young journalist Oleksandra Prokhorova (Bychkovskaya) and her 9-month-old son have become new victims of Russia’s war against Ukraine – only fate saved the family’s life this morning when a Russian missile hit an apartment building in Kyiv.
The blast destroyed several apartments, killed two people and injured four. “We are lucky,” says Oleksandra, because neither she nor her family members were injured.
Currently, the journalist, who was not going to leave Kyiv before, is trying to get with her family to Western Ukraine, to Lviv: “now motherhood has prevailed.”
Oleksandra Prokhorova (Bychkovska) was born in Zhytomyr region and worked in local and national media. She is a winner of various journalistic competitions. Prior to maternity leave, she worked in the communications department of the state agency ARMA.
Oleksandra’s mother is a professional journalist, a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine from Novohrad-Volynskyi, Zhytomyr Region, who for a long time worked as a correspondent for the newspapers “ECHO” (Zhytomyr) and “FACTS” (Kyiv).

NUJU also asks international partners to fill special funds to help Ukrainian journalists – victims of Russia’s military aggression, and in particular, calls for fundraising to help Ukrainian journalist Oleksandra Prokhorova and her family.
