Thanks to cooperation with partners Ukrainian Media Fund and Gazeta Wyborcza Foundation, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU) was able to financially support more than 40 Ukrainian newsrooms for over EUR 80,000 in the most difficult year of existence for many media, said Sergiy Tomilenko, the President of the NUJU.
In particular, these media companies were and are participants in the We are from Ukraine! and Journalists are Important! projects.
On the recommendation of the Union, creating stories about volunteers who help military and civilians, medics who saved people under fire, drivers who risked taking entire families out of the occupied territories, ordinary residents of towns and villages who find the strength to support others, about children who use their talents to raise money for the Armed Forces, as well as the work of fellow journalists during the war, the media received funding from Polish and Scandinavian organizations through the NUJU.
Among the permanent participants in the projects are 29 regional and local editorial offices and seven all-Ukrainian ones. The teams of these media have already created almost 600 author’s materials within the framework of the initiatives.
