On November 2, 2021, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine organizes annual public hearings on the protection of journalists’ rights, the fight against impunity and physical aggression against media workers.
The key speakers are the leadership of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Police of Ukraine, the Office of the Prosecutor General, experts and lawyers.
International speakers will take a part at the hearings:
- Benjamin Moreau, deputy head of UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission to Ukraine;
- Lukas Böhm, representative of the German Embassy in Ukraine
The event is supported by NUJU’s international partners: International Federation of Journalists, European Federation of Journalists, Justice for Journalists Foundation and UNESCO Headquarters, New Europeans
During the hearings will discuss the level of safety of journalists in Ukraine, the current state of investigations of high-profile cases, mechanisms to improve the level of physical safety of journalists in Ukraine and steps to reduce the number of incidents.
Please note that due to quarantine restrictions, public hearings will be held online.

November 2 is the International Day for the Fight against Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (Impunity Day, declared by the United Nations).
Annual public hearings will be held as part of the project “Countering Impunity Against Journalists in Ukraine”, which the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine is implementing in 2021 with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office.
